Saudi Arabia expresses its condemnation of international comments on Raif Badawi

Here we go again... There has been huge international outrage this week from governments and human rights organisations over Saudi Arabia's decision to uphold Raif Badawi's sentence of 1000 lashes and 10 years in prison. Today a source at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed condemnation of the comments and statements of some countries and organisations.

The original text in Arabic is here...

A Foreign Ministry official expressed extreme surpise and condemnation of the remarks and statements of some countries and international organizations on the issue of citizen Raef Badawi, although he did not issue any statement about it from the judiciary or any official body in the country.
The source added that the judiciary is independent in the Kingdom, and that the kingdom does not accept any interference in the internal jurisdiction or that of any party.

So, once again, the Saudi Government chooses to hide behind the ridiculous excuse that it's judiciary is 'independent'. Well, here's some news for you, KSA...

The Saudi Arabian Judiciary is no longer fit for purpose if it's ruling on Raif Badawi is an example of it's 'justice'. It's very existence is an embarrassment to the country whilst it continues to act in defiance of human rights. The government cannot use the excuse of it's 'independent judiciary' any longer unless it wishes the country to be held up as the pariah of the world.
